Japanese listed company Metaplanet invests 500 million yen to acquire Bitcoin, with a total holdings
Metaplanet is a Japanese listed company known for its stable accumulation of Bitcoin, and recently acquired Bitcoin (BTC) worth 500 million yen. The CEO of the company, Simon Gerovich, announced this news on the X platform.
According to information released by Simon Gerovich, CEO of Japanese listed company Metaplanet, the company recently acquired Bitcoin (BTC) worth 500 million yen. This acquisition brings Metaplanet's Bitcoin holdings to approximately 303, with a total value of nearly $18 million.
This acquisition was made after the company announced last week that it had obtained a loan worth 1 billion yen, which will be specifically used to purchase Bitcoin. Metaplanet also revealed plans to raise approximately $70 million through a stock option issuance, and use approximately $58 million of that amount to further invest in Bitcoin.
Metaplanet's continuous investment shows that the company is committed to using Bitcoin as a financial reserve asset. The company regards Bitcoin as a strategic long-term investment and also a hedge against yen depreciation and Japan's high treasury bond. Metaplanet aims to provide domestic investors with investment opportunities in Bitcoin while taking advantage of favorable tax treatment. Since the first disclosure of the acquisition of Bitcoin in April this year, the company's stock has risen by over 200%.
