Cryptocurrency industry leaders hold online meeting with White House officials to discuss future cry
Recently, several executives from major cryptocurrency companies held an online meeting with members of the US Congress, officials from the Biden administration, and the campaign team of Vice President He Jinli to discuss the future cryptocurrency policies of the United States.
According to a report by Yahoo Finance on August 8th, the purpose of this meeting is to explore how the US government may "reset" its policy on cryptocurrency at the end of President Biden's term and during the campaign of Carrie Lam. The conference attendees include Paul Grewal, Legal Director of Coinbase Global, David Rippley, CEO of Kraken, Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, and Jeremy Allaire, CEO of Circle. This event was initially planned as a face-to-face roundtable discussion, but later changed to a virtual format.
The meeting was organized by California Congressman Ro Khanna, and government officials in attendance included Lael Brainard, Director of the National Economic Council, Bruce Reed, Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House, and Kristine Lucius, Senior Advisor to Kelly Ho.
According to reports, cryptocurrency executives urged the Biden administration to provide a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets during the meeting and hinted that Gary Gensler, the chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), should be relieved of his position. Since Gary Gensler took office, the SEC has taken multiple enforcement actions against cryptocurrency companies, but there has been criticism within the industry that these actions have not provided clear pathways for businesses to operate legally.
So far, Democratic candidate Ho Kam li and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have not expressed their intention to make cryptocurrency a core issue in their campaign. In contrast, Republican nominee Donald Trump has publicly supported cryptocurrency for many times. He said he would accept cryptocurrency donations after re-election and planned to fire Gary Gensler. In addition, Trump also opposes the introduction of digital currency from the central bank in the United States.
According to the latest news, the two presidential candidates will have a public debate on September 10th. According to the results of the market bet predicted by Polymarket, the probability of two people winning is equal, and the probability of He Jinli is even slightly higher than that of Trump by 1%.
